This week, something pretty special happened.
After years of asking, my eldest daughter finally sat beside me and made her very first piece of jewellery. Grown up tools + a blow torch = serious concentration… and a very proud small face.
It wasn’t as perfect as these images might seem, seriously I had to bite my tongue, not overthink it and let go of control just a tiny bit. Not something I find easy in my workshop! I feel this is a lesson I am having to learn again and again running a business while raising children. And I’m learning (slowly) that it doesn’t have to be easy to be perfect.
When I started Louy Magroos, I didn’t know what I was doing — not really. I just knew I wanted to create something meaningful. Something I could build around my life. I imagined calm mornings, flexible hours, and space to be creative.
And for a little while it was exactly this. I worked when I wanted, had time to put in all the hours when I needed to. Spoiler: it hasn’t looked like that for a while.
It’s looked like doubting whether I can still do this at midnight while feeding a baby. Like answering emails rushed on the school run and then worrying I hadn’t spell checked it before pressing send. Like photographing earrings during naptime because it’s the only quiet thing I could do that felt like work.
But. It’s also looked like freedom to able to do the school runs, paint in the garden when the moment takes us, independence to make the things I love to make and excitedly share my new ideas with my kids. And now, moments at the bench with my daughter, who’s watched all of this happen quietly in the background.
She doesn’t know it yet, but she’s part of the story. Just like you are, if you’ve ever bought a piece from me, shared my work, or sent a kind message on a hard day.
And honestly? I still doubt myself constantly. I second-guess every decision. I lose sleep over pricing, packaging, Instagram captions… and I still feel like I should have it all more “together” by now.
But this week reminded me: it’s not about perfect.
It’s about creating a life — and a business — that reflects the values I care about. One where honesty, simplicity and connection come first. One where a child can sit beside her mum and make something with her hands and feel proud.

Thanks for being part of that. Whether you’ve followed me for years or you’re new here, I’m so glad you're along for the ride.
