My Week As A Jeweller #4

It's late I know, but I have a good excuse I promise! A bank holiday mixed with Fathers day madness has kept me CrAzY busy this last week so I am a day late with my photo blog...I hope it's worth the wait :-)

If you read my blog "Not On The High Streets Annual Make Do and Meet and my Award Nomination" then you will already know my week started off with an exciting trip down to London...

You can read all about it by clicking the link above, but here is the photo that NOTHS took of all those rings I made a couple of weeks back for the awards.

It all then got a little less glamorous, and a little more wire wool, acid and rubber gloves...

I made some etched cufflinks; this is done by using an acid to eat away at the silver. By creating a mask or silhouette you can create some very delicate patterns and images onto the silver surface. This is not my favourite process because it is just so unpredictable and takes time to do properly, but after a long day I managed to get some good results...

After a day working with nasty chemicals and lots of ideas and decisions going through my head after the Make Do and Meet, I decided to take some time out and get out in nature for some good thinking time, and where better a place than this to clear your head.

Bruce and I had a lovely morning at Blythe Valley nature reserve, the sun even came out for us and I felt much better for a break. Working for yourself it is easy to forget that you have worked without a day off for weeks on end, or you have worked from the moment you wake up to the moment you put the laptop down to go to bed. I think over the next couple of weeks, or at least once the fathers day rush is over I need to find a way of making sure I am making time for me, as well as Louys.

.

The rest of the week I forced myself to make time to do the things outside of work that I enjoy, so I did some sewing...

And I baked...

It was my Dad's birthday at the weekend so my sister and me made him a Hummingbird Bakery Malteaser Chocolate cake, it was AMAZING...

A little more walking with the dogs and enjoying the countryside finished my week and set me up feeling fresh and ready for the madness that is Fathers day.

I can't say that Mike feels the same after spending the weekend in Bournemouth for a Stag weekend, apparently the last hill on the walk was just too much...
